Bid day: I haven't heard those two words used together in quite some time. They immediately transport me to the unique days called "rush" which culminated in a moment on the lawn next to the "towers" at the University of Idaho where I learned which group of 100+ girls were my new sisters. Thank you for these tips! I used this information to plan a trip with my niece and we had an AMAZING time! We picked a time that was not busy at all - the end of January. We stayed 2 days and it was plenty of time to see everything as much as we wanted. The bonus - my niece was picked by Olivander to get a wand! This was the trip of a lifetime for any Harry Potter fan!

Duke, It's not just the parents. I believe it is 50% DNA and 50% environmental. My son was in rehab for 2 months. I ws raised by 2 loving parents and have a degree in Early Childhood Education. My husband was also from a loving household and is a cop. We are loving parents to our 'Beautiful Boy." My husbands brother is an alcoholic, and my brother is an alcoholic. My son has been clean and sober since he was 17 and will be 21 end of this month. He goes to college and you would never know of his addictive personality by the way he treats us.

Your early morning writing sounds absolutely delicious. I always tell myself that I need to try that: set the alarm before everyone else gets up and write in the quietude before the day really begins.

Interesting. Things have definitely changed since our parents were our age. And they will change again, dramatically by the time our kids are our age.

I guess I don't pay all that much attention to Facebook but I totally understand what you and Diablo Cody are saying. The thing I am weirded out about more is when people know all about me because they read my blog. I mean, it is exactly what I want, right? But we meet in real life and we don't know what to talk about because they already know what I am up to so don't really need to ask. It is awkward until they say, "Oh yes, I read your blog." Then I know to just focus on them. :)

I think we are in a time of transition where we are uncomfortable with social media and don't quite know the rules yet as they apply to our real lives.

So, did I ever tell you about our cats? The cats we imported to Japan from China at great expence (Japan is the second most stringent country in the world for pet imports). The cats that my husband regularly buys fresh tuna for? Whom are the proud owners of a god-awful cat palace in my living room (at DH's insistance), whom we make little beds for at night next to our space heater? Okay, the moral of this story is tough lives are not only for dogs. :)

I feel exactly the same way. Like the learning--true learning--is really just beginning. And yet I'm expected to teach and show my kids the world, as if I already know! :)

all of what you just wrote is why I have loved homeschooling and teaching Sunday school. I just love the idea of forever enriching my brain and there is no greater way to do it than to learn along=side a child. The way they look at things, twist it around, examine it... it makes me see it in a different light every time.
